Marbles Newton
Interactive game with the simple goal of getting five balls of the same color in a row
I brought this to a cooking & board games night with other college friends and this was a hit! The game is very well made, however, it is certainly bulky, the box is about twice as thick as your typical board game, so you will need to make sure you have plenty of storage space. Additionally, the plastic tubes could get scratched, and may not be perfectly level, but that is inconsequential to the game. I did notice that some marbles appear to be slightly different diameters, as they would not always perfectly line up, but that did not affect play either. Regarding resetting the game, the tray is too shallow, and being a wooden base, the marbles will easily bounce out, so if you have some velvet I would recommend putting that in the bottom to dampen the bounce. Sometimes when you first set up the game, a marble could bounce out on the first move, which is a minor nuisance. With regards to the game itself, this requires you to plan across multiple dimensions, and the structure of the game requires you to make use of every column to get a horizontal or diagonal win. This game is easy to grasp, but you need to think multiple moves ahead and create forks, as a person's attempt to block or complete a 5-in-a-row may result in their own demise.Overall, while there are some minor design issues with the game, it feels well made and doesn't affect gameplay or anything else materially. This is a game that can serve as a nice light filler, and is entertaining for spectators to watch too. It is only two players though, and takes up a lot of space, so you definitely need to take that into consideration.
