Ordered on10MAY16 and arrived 12MAY16. Very first thing I did when I opened the blister pack was to check the bezel. It was loose, just as another reviewer reported. Drop of blue Loc-Tite and it's good to go forever. Be advised that this compass is not gasket sealed and is probably not especially water resistant. Be further advised that the compass body is attached to the pin-on bar with two tiny brass Phillips head screws, and not the brass rivets of yesteryear. That's an inconvenient loss just waiting to happen - drop of red Loc-Tite on each screw and that's that potential problem averted. And, the brass pin-on bar not as substantial as the old 'Made in USA' versions used to be.This compass is made of nicely finished, shiny brass with a clear, anti-tarnish coating. The knurled edge is well executed, and nowhere on the compass itself does it say 'Made in China'. The compass rose is not luminescent, but it does point to the same North as three of my other compasses. This compass is $12.00; the same style, Made in USA by Tru-Nord is $45.00.I had one growing up and it was much higher qualm than this new one. I believe the old was liquid filled too, but not sure.I bought this compass as a first compass because I felt like other compasses were harder to learn how to use with all of the extra features and what not. This one is simple, you can rely on the movement of the bezel to direct you North, South, East, West and in between, it'll tilt if it isn't quite north, south, etc. and that's because it's letting you know that you aren't fully in your direction. I tested this compass out turning 360 degrees, and it is very accurate for something so small. The fact that it can be pinned to your shirt is another plus, just make sure you pin it good enough so that the compass is facing upright and you'll be all set. I'll also be testing this compass with my smartphone compass and I'll most likely update on this.Overall, if you're looking for a simple directional compass that works, this is in my opinion, perfect. I feel it will even help in survival situations. I trust it.I haven't used the compass as of yet. I will be using it during this years deer hunting season. It appears 2 be of good quality.Good size and very accurate.Functional, however, when I was handling it, it was rattling. I realized the glass cover is loose and not sealed. I unscrewed the top and the glass was not secure. I am sure that if I use it in the field and it rains or snows, water will get inside the mechanism area. Not sure how that will affect the functionality of it. I have to say that I am disappointed. I am not sure if this is a defect or if it is made like this. I am going to stop by the hardware store to see if I can get a washer that will fit to create a seal.Solidly made with quality materials. Pins easily onto jacket or parka making it easy to simply look down and get a direction read. Very important: reads direction accurately and dampens quickly. No need to buy any other if you want the best there is.The design made to be pinned on clothing keeps it immediately accessible. It is also very accurate. I am very satisfied with it.
