The xylophones bars are wooden, while the glockenspiels are metal, thus making it a metallophone. Don't buy this item. Cheap, poorly made, and fails to perform the one thing it is designed to do; be a musical instrument. Returned it the moment we tried it out.All the bars are out of tune and the instrument as a whole cannot produce a scale.Some may argue that it is for children and therefore not important, to which I would argue that this "instrument" will do harm to any musical talent, and its tuneless noise will drive you distraction within a day.Do yourself and your budding musician a huge favour and buy something that isn't junk.Bought as a Christmas present for an office children's Christmas party and it was well received. Would recommend!As one other buyer mentioned, the F key is slightly flat... However, for me this is not a problem at all - I bought it for my 9 month old. He loves it and the keys have a nicer sound than his previous glockenspiel!Fast delivery and a lovely traditional gift for a two year old.
